Notice of Preparation of New Electoral Roll

Every six years the ChuchParochial Church Council (PCC) are required by the Church of England to prepare a completely new electoral roll and 2025 is one of those years.

Whether you are on the present roll or not, we invite you to fill in a simple new form to ensure that you remain on, or can be added to, the list.

The PCC for St James (Annie Hunter, Ruth Power, John Fawcett, Neil Good, Neil Clare, Suzie Leon, Tim Davy, Victoria Prentis and Joanne Spencer) share the legal responsibility, with the Team Rector, for the church and have responsibility for a whole range of things including, the building, finances, appointments, public services of the church and administration and maintenance of the electoral roll.

Joining the electoral roll does not mean signing up to any responsibilities or commitments to the church, though it does show the Church of England the importance we place on our village Church and helps the PCC to strengthen our position when seeking grants and support from the Diocese.

The more people we have on the electoral roll…the better our case!

  1. Simply download the form from this website on your PC or Mac.
  2. Answer the two questions and enter your name and date at the bottom of the form, no need for a written signature.
  3. Send the completed form to [email protected]

Questions?

What is the Electoral Roll?

Quite simply, it is our Church’s register of electors. In the same way that being on the civic Electoral Roll allows you to vote in parliamentary and local elections, joining the Church of England electoral roll, allows you to vote at the St James APCM on Church matters, including the election of the Parish Church Council (PCC) and Churchwardens. It also means you can stand for election to the PCC and the Deanery, Diocesan or General Synods. The Synods, together with the bishops, are how the Church of England is governed.

Why join the Electoral Roll?

The number of people on the electoral roll determines how many seats there are on our Parish Church Council, and also on the Synods. The system is intended to enable the church community at every level to be in touch with and influence the Anglican Church as a whole and to play their part in decision making. So, the more people who are signed up, the more representative we can be!
